Privacy policy
Last updated: October 19, 2026
This policy explains what information Steward IT LLC ("we") collects through steward-it.com and from customers of Steward IT Census, and how we use it. Questions: support@steward-it.com or +1 (928) 888-9928.
The Census software
Census runs on your server. The inventory, credentials, users and settings it collects are stored on your systems and are not sent to us. License activation is offline. The software may download public files from the internet (vulnerability data from public sources such as Microsoft, the NVD and Linux distributions, end-of-life data from endoflife.date, and a version-check file from us). These are plain downloads, and nothing about your network is included. Each can be turned off.
Information you give us
- Forms (contact, release notification, quote requests): name, email, organization, phone, role, approximate number of devices, your server's operating system, your Census Server ID, and your message.
- Purchases: billing name, organization, address, email, what you bought, and your Server ID, which is needed to issue a license key. Card payments are handled by Stripe, and you enter your payment details on Stripe's pages. We don't receive or store full card numbers.
- Support: what you send us, which may include logs or screenshots you choose to share.
Information collected automatically
Our web host logs standard request data (IP address, browser type, time and pages requested) for security and operations. This site sets no tracking or advertising cookies and embeds no third-party analytics. Fonts and scripts are served from our own server.
Downloads: when you download Census, we record the time, the file and your IP address so we can count downloads. The address is turned into an approximate location (city, region and country, using the DB-IP lookup service) for a short internal notice of the download and for our daily internal download report. The addresses are deleted once that daily report is sent; the notice contains only the approximate location, not the address. We keep only the counts and approximate locations, and we don't publish them. A setting in your browser's local storage remembers your light/dark theme choice and never leaves your device.
How we use information
- to answer your questions and send quotes, invoices and license keys;
- to tell subscribers when Census 1.0 is released, and to send customers important product and security notices (you can unsubscribe from non-essential email at any time);
- to provide support, keep business and tax records, and prevent fraud and abuse.
We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.
Who we share it with
- Service providers who help us run the business: web hosting and email (Namecheap), DNS and delivery of the download files (Cloudflare), IP address locations for our download report (DB-IP), payments and sales tax (Stripe), and accounting. They may use the data only to provide their services.
- Authorities, when required by law or to protect rights and safety.
- A successor, if our business is sold or merged, under this policy.
Retention and security
We keep customer and license records as long as your license is in use and as needed for accounting, taxes and legal obligations. We keep inquiries and release-notification sign-ups until you ask us to delete them, or until they're no longer needed. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete your personal information, or to stop sending you email, by writing to support@steward-it.com. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK, Canada, Australia or California), you may have additional rights under local law, such as data portability or objecting to processing. We'll honor them as required. If you're in the EU or UK, our legal bases are performing a contract or taking steps at your request (quotes, licenses, support), our legitimate interests (security, preventing abuse, product notices), and your consent (early-access emails). Your information is processed in the United States.
Children
Our products and this site are for businesses and IT professionals and aren't directed at children under 13.
